Operational Competence & Performance

Helping organisations close the gap between competency expectations and operational reality.

Operational competence is more than knowledge and skill. It is the ability to apply judgement, make decisions and perform effectively when conditions are not routine.

Developing the knowledge, skills and judgement required for safe, effective and reliable performance.

  • Operational Competence

  • Workplace Assessment

  • Assessor Development

  • Human Performance

  • Capability Development

Competence isn't demonstrated when everything goes to plan. It's demonstrated when it doesn't.

Perceptions of Competence

Competence means different things to different people.

  • Executives seek assurance.

  • Managers seek performance.

  • Trainers seek learning.

  • Assessors seek evidence.

  • Workers seek confidence that they can perform when it matters.

Erimus helps organisations align these perspectives.

The Erimus Difference

Most organisations ask 'What tasks must be performed?'

Erimus asks 'What decisions must be made?'

Why Erimus?

Erimus is Latin for 'We Shall Be.'

The phrase has long been associated with aspiration, resilience, and continual improvement. Those same principles underpin our approach to competence, capability, and operational performance.

Our Mission

Erimus exists to bridge the gap between organisational expectations of competence and the realities of operational performance.

We help organisations identify, develop and assure the knowledge, skills, judgement and decision-making that underpin safe and effective performance.

Because competence is not demonstrated when conditions are routine.

It is demonstrated when they are not.

What do we do?

Built by people who've done the work, are informed by experience, and focused on capability.

Erimus exists to help organisations close the gap between competency systems and workplace reality, developing people who are not just signed off, but genuinely capable.

  • Capability-focused, not compliance-driven

  • Coaching and development, not tick-box assessment

  • Grounded in workplace reality

  • Supporting individuals, teams and leaders to perform with confidence

Helping people move from signed off to genuinely capable

What We Help Organisations Develop

We work with organisations to identify and assure the capabilities that matter most in operational environments, including:

  • Technical knowledge

  • Practical skills

  • Operational judgement

  • Situational awareness

  • Decision-making

  • Problem solving

  • Adaptation during abnormal situations

Because capability is more than technical proficiency alone.

Chris Price is the founder of Erimus Operational Competence & Performance. He brings more than 25 years of international experience in offshore oil and gas production, having worked across the United Kingdom, Australia, China, and South Korea in operational, commissioning, maintenance, training, assessment, coaching, and workforce development roles.

Most of that time has been in high-risk operational environments, where just understanding the theory is never the whole story. What Chris cares about is the gap between what a competency framework says on paper and what actually happens at the worksite, under pressure. That's where he's spent his career; helping people apply what they know, make good calls, and perform confidently when conditions aren't ideal.

He's worked closely with operators, technicians, supervisors, trainers and assessors to build and verify genuine operational competence. Not by ticking boxes, but by understanding how the work is really done and finding the gaps between the standard and the practice.

Chris holds a Master of Business Psychology and a Bachelor of Applied Business (Management), complementing more than 25 years of operational experience. This combination influences his approach to competence, assessor judgement, learning transfer, and workforce development, with a strong emphasis on how capability is demonstrated in the workplace rather than how it is documented on paper.

Through Erimus, Chris works with organisations where competency matters, offering independent assessment, competency assurance, coaching and performance improvement, with the emphasis built around how operational work actually happens.

'True competence is demonstrated not in the classroom, but in the quality of decisions and actions made when it matters most.'
